Tanques israelenses e unidades de infantaria realizaram, na madrugada desta quinta-feira (26/10), a maior operação terrestre pontual no norte da Faixa de Gaza desde 7 de outubro, quando o grupo extremista Hamas invadiu o sul do território israelense, matou 1.400 pessoas e sequestrou 224.
As Forças de Defesa de Israel (IDF) divulgaram um vídeo da operação , que teve como alvo terroristas da facção. Analistas consideram que o objetivo da incursão seria testar a resistência do Hamas. As tropas e tanques recuaram para fora de Gaza após a missão.

Na quarta-feira (25/10), o primeiro-ministro de Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, tinha anunciado que os preparativos para uma invasão a Gaza estavam em marcha e que ela ocorreria após a autorização do gabinete de guerra montado sob seu governo.
Por sua vez, Ali Barakeh, chefe do Departamento de Relações Nacionais do Hamas, disse ao Correio que Gaza seria transformada em um "cemitério para o Exército de ocupação" e que os "homens da resistência" prepararam "surpresas" para as tropas israelenses.
"O que espera por Netanyahu são mais perdas humanas e materiais", advertiu.
